Rivers and waterways in Calderdale, Kirklees, and Wakefield

Our Projects

The Calder Rivers Trust works to improve our rivers for people and nature.

"Our very way of life is under severe threat from climate change and ecosystem breakdown"

“The challenge facing us is immense. We know that fundamental systemic change is required if we are to have any chance of rising to this challenge. I hope that you will all join with us over the coming months and years to to build a future that is full of hope and delight in our natural world, not despair”

– Mark Lloyd, The Rivers Trust CEO

Join us as a volunteer - in the office or in the field.

We couldn’t care for the Calder without volunteers.

Volunteering offers a huge range of rewards. Swap the rush of everyday life for the calmness of being by water. Meet new people or learn new skills.

We have a range of regular volunteer opportunities you can get involved in.

Together for Rivers

At present, there are no designated bathing waters in UK rivers. This means that the rivers people use to swim, paddle catch and play could be severely polluted, without people even knowing it. In some cases, this can lead to bouts of illness, and put people off of using rivers entirely. With your help, we can change that.
