The South Pennine Farmers Group is a facilitated group of farmers and landholders operating in the South Pennines area. We meet regularly to have talks and discussions, covering changes to agricultural legislation, funding updates, local schemes and issues, diversification, and different approaches to land management. We are actively involved in Defra Test and Trials and in supporting research. Our membership covers over 1000ha in the South Pennines.

If you would like to be added to the South Pennine Farmers Group mailing list, to be notified when meetings are taking place, email our facilitator, Jane Rowling, at jane.rowling@calderandcolneriverstrust.org or phone 07943 470 261.

Recent Activities

Soil Health and Aeration Demonstration

On 19 May, we held a soil health and aeration demonstration event in Todmorden. Our speaker, Philip Wright, showed us how to assess soil health, and went through some of the actions we could take to improve it. We looked at the impact of aeration on soil compaction, grass growth, and water infiltration for multiple benefits.

Defra Test and Trials

We have been taking part in iCASP’s Defra Test and Trials project on the Environmental Land Management Scheme.
